From simulation in Kristiansand to commissioning in Stavanger
Helipad 2.0 – one day on site, months of preparation
In November, the Helipad 2.0 project reached an important milestone when the EON team travelled to Stavanger to commission the new control system.
What makes the project special is that the entire control system was developed and tested in our simulation environment in Kristiansand before we set foot on site. By building a realistic test environment, we were able to verify logic, sequences, and communication early in the project, which reduced risk and left us well prepared for installation.
On 6 November, the entire EON team travelled to Stavanger to put the system into operation. On site, the control system was connected to the existing plant, and all key functions were tested and verified.
In the course of one day, we completed connection, functional testing, and verification of communication with drive systems, sensors, and other industrial interfaces. The result was a successful commissioning where the system worked as expected from day one.
To ensure effective follow-up after commissioning, we also established remote access to the plant over 4G. The solution allows us to connect to the system when needed for troubleshooting, optimisation, or future changes, without having to travel to the location.
The project demonstrates the value of thorough simulation and testing before installation. By doing as much work as possible in advance, we were able to minimise time on site, reduce startup risk, and deliver an efficient commissioning.
Helipad 2.0 is a good example of how modern development methods, simulation, and remote access can contribute to safer and more cost-effective deliveries in industrial automation.
